Is Daily Hair Washing Harmful?

If you wash your hair every day, you can achieve the opposite effect: the hair gets dirty faster and the scalp becomes irritated and dry.

Does washing your hair every day do any harm?

Beautiful hair is the dream of many women. Not everyone is blessed with this as there are many different hair types. But they all have one thing in common: washing your hair is important. But how often?

shampoo

When it comes to shampooing , it’s not just a matter of frequency, but also of the shampoo. There is also a shampoo specifically designed by the cosmetics industry for every hair type: care shampoo, volume shampoo, color-refreshing shampoo, smoothing shampoo, etc.

All of this can be sold! But is it always useful? The main job of a shampoo is to clean the hair. Sebum, grease, dirt and styling products must be reliably washed out by the shampoo.

A shampoo doesn’t need to be able to do more than that. If your hair needs additional care, you can do this after actually washing your hair with conditioner, treatment, hair oil and other care products. Many shampoos contain silicones.

These build up around your hair and ensure that it feels soft, supple and shiny. These silicones do not care for anything, they just form a film around your hair that becomes heavier with each wash.

This weighs down your hair unnecessarily. So make sure that the shampoo of your choice does not contain any silicone.

Shampoo once or twice?

One swears to lather all at once, the other claims that her hair is not clean under two shampoo. The good: both are right. Because it depends on your individual hair how often you have to shampoo.

If your hair becomes greasy quickly, you may have to use shampoo more than once to get your hair really clean.

If you wash your hair every day and have a rather dry scalp, shampoo can be the right thing to do. But it is always important: “A lot helps a lot” is not true.  Hair won’t get cleaner if you use a large amount of shampoo!

If you have long hair, just shampooing the hairline is enough. The soapy water that runs over your hair lengths and ends when rinsing is completely sufficient and does not dry out your hair!

Rubbing firmly or massaging gently?

Many have a tendency to downright maltreat their scalp while washing their hair. Especially those who have oily hair because the hairline is quickly greasy.

The opinion that this removes the excess skin oil unfortunately leads to the opposite: vigorous rubbing and firm rubbing of the scalp encourages the sebum glands to only produce more – the hairline will continue to regrowth quickly.

Extreme degreasing of the scalp also causes the sebum glands to work harder. So avoid rubbing solid ones. A gentle head massage, on the other hand, loosens the dirt and is good for you!

Daily hair wash?

If you think you have to wash your hair every day because it is lank, feels heavy, or greases quickly at the hairline, first find out what might be the problem.

Does your hairline regrease so quickly because you may rub too hard while washing your hair and stimulate the production of sebum? Does it feel heavy because you might be using a shampoo that is infused with silicone?

Doesn’t it fall loose because there are too many conditioning substances in the shampoo that your hair doesn’t need? Is it lank because you overwhelmed it with care products? Carefully test out why you feel like you have to wash your hair every day.

There are special shampoos in specialist shops (i.e. at the hairdresser’s) that can bring over-treated hair back to its “normal state”. You can think of it as a “peeling” for your hair.

Such shampoos do not work after the first wash – because you have treated your hair more than once! There is little that can be done about silicones deposited on the hair except: Buying a shampoo that works without silicones. It is now even printed on many products!

How often now?

It depends! Washing your hair daily can completely unbalance your scalp. If you want to wash your hair every day, try to use shampoo only every other hair wash, so as not to irritate the scalp too much.

In general, it is sufficient to wash your hair only every two days, sometimes every 3 days is sufficient.

It all depends on your scalp and how you deal with it and your hair. If you follow our tips, you can save time and water if you only wash your hair every other day at the earliest!
