Have you tried tomato jam before ? It tastes delicious, is not too sweet and can be used in a wide variety of dishes.

Of course, it is also important that it is one of the healthiest jams there is.

It contains many vitamins, especially group B, and is rich in carotenes, hence the beautiful red color. But that’s not all.

Tomato jam is low in calories, is an excellent source of antioxidants, and has antibacterial, anti-cancer and blood sugar lowering properties. It is also ideal for preventing cardiovascular diseases.

  • Reduces the cholesterol level:  The active ingredient lycopene contained in the tomato helps to eliminate toxins and reduce the cholesterol level. This has been proven in many studies. People who consume tomatoes regularly, be it in salads, as juice or jam, can reduce the likelihood of cardiovascular disease by up to 50%. Lycopene protects our arteries.
  • Low in calories and fat: 95% of tomatoes consist of water, but they are filling, but not fat. Tomatoes also contain many vitamins, including vitamins B, A, and C, as well as minerals such as magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, iron, and manganese.

Tomato jam – recipe

ingredients

    • 1 kg of tomatoes
    • 400 g of sugar
    • Juice of one lemon
    • 1 cinnamon stick

  • First, the tomatoes are peeled. To do this, fill a pot with water, as soon as it boils, add the tomatoes to the water and let them cook for a very short time (less than 1 minute). Then chill the tomatoes with cold water. Now they can be peeled more easily. If possible, remove the seeds as well.
  • Put the tomato pulp in a bowl, then add the sugar and lemon juice. Let this mixture sit for an hour. This way the acidity of the tomatoes disappears and the ingredients mix better.
  • Then cook all of the ingredients on a low heat. Don’t forget to add the cinnamon, it gives the jam a delicious taste. Keep stirring, this will make the jam finer. The jam must be cooked for at least an hour. You can try every now and then. But don’t forget to stir, otherwise the jam could burn at the bottom and become bitter.
  • Once the jam is fine and light, you can turn off the stove. Now the mixture should rest and cool for at least half an hour. You will see that it becomes more and more solid. It just tastes delicious.
  • You can then pour the jam into jars with lids for storage. To make them more durable, you can put the jars in a saucepan with boiling water. So you can hermetically seal them and you can keep them longer.
