This method is also known as “ Breathwalk ”, in which synchronized breathing is combined with moderate movement.

For many, it is a kind of mindfulness that can be practiced every day while moving the body and relaxing the mind.

  • The roots of the breathwalk  can be found in Zen Buddhism, in a technique called Kinhin .
  • In Japan one often sees practicing groups meditating in rhythmic walking accompanied by sounds.
  • This exercise requires synchronized breathing, with regular steps  learning to live the moment while focusing on the movement. 

Ancient scriptures explain that the Buddha used to take leisurely strolls through the forest.

You need comfortable clothing and comfortable, closed shoes that protect your feet well.

  • Before you start walking, sit down for 5 minutes, place your hands over your chest, and take a deep breath.
  • You feel your chest expand and hold your breath for 10 seconds. Then you can breathe out deeply.
  • Repeat this conscious breathing several times. After that, you are ready to start your hike.

Start walking slowly, feel how your feet touch the ground and be aware of your legs and your heart, which beats rhythmically like to an inner music and calms you down.

  • It is important to feel and hear the breathing, because this is how you can free yourself from burdens: Take a deep breath, feel the pressure in your  stomach and let the air flow in deeply.
  • Exhale and pause for 10 minutes before moving on.
